Davis Love III Returns to Competition at AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Next Week

Sea Island, GA—Davis Love III, who has not played any golf since the end of September due to a severe left-ankle injury, has committed to play in next week’s AT&T National Pro-Am.

Love underwent surgery during the first week of October and has undergone an extensive rehab program with his trainer Randy Myers and physical therapist Damien Moroney.

“I feel really good about my physical ability in regards to the ankle. Thanks to Randy and Damien, I am also in the best overall physical shape I have been for some time. Plus, I am hitting the ball pretty good,” said Love, who has earned 19 victories on the PGA TOUR. “I am eager to get back into competition and get this year started. I have some goals I want to achieve in 2008 and beyond. So, I am excited to get back into the mix.”

Love was scheduled to play in the Dell Webb Father/Son Challenge and Target World Challenge. He has withdrawn from both events in an effort to retain full strength for the 2008 season. At this point, his first competition will be the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February.

Love is a two-time winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. He finished tied for fourth in the 2007 edition.

Davis Love III Suffers Severe Ankle Injury

Sea Island, GA—Davis Love III will not play any golf for a minimum of eight weeks after suffering a severe left-ankle injury while playing a round of leisure golf late last week.

Love, currently ranked 51st in the world, tore tendons in the left ankle when he stepped in a hole and will have surgery in seven to ten days.

“An MRI proved that all the ligaments on the outside of the ankle are torn,” said Dr. Melvin Deese, who diagnosed Love. “Obviously, those ligaments are very significant for a golfer because they stabilize the foot during the swing.”

Love is scheduled to play in the Dell Webb Father/Son Challenge and Target World Challenge. Both events are in December.

“Davis is eager to start the therapy after his operation and fulfill the commitments he has remaining this season,” said Love’s manager Mac Barnhardt.
