Early Success

Not a bad week's work for a kid who turned 23 a few days earlier.

In the spring of 1987, Davis was about to cash his first big tournament paycheck, somewhere in the neighborhood of $70,000, at the MCI Heritage Classic. Not a bad week's work for a kid who turned 23 a few days earlier. But his perceived runner's-up status quickly turned into a trophy and a tartan blazer. Because tournament leader Steve Jones hit his 72nd and final tee shot out-of-bounds at historic Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Davis had his first, and quite unexpected, victory.

Since that fateful day almost two decades past, victory has been expected of Davis, and time after time, he's delivered, including four additional wins at Harbour Town.
