A Game Their Father Loved

"Don't be afraid to be a kid—have fun!"—Davis Love Jr.

Davis Love III was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on the Monday following the 1964 Masters, a tournament in which his father, Davis Jr., shared the first-round lead.

In the game of golf, Davis' father did just about everything a person can do. He played at the University of Texas under his mentor, Harvey Penick. He became a respected club professional and a nationally renowned golf instructor. He also competed at golf's highest level, including appearances in all four professional major championships.

Together, Davis and his brother, Mark, grew up around the game their father loved. He taught them simply to enjoy playing golf, that finding pleasure in the game would lead to the desire for improvement.
